The Calgary Stampede is a symbol of western hospitality, and being known for emulating that legendary hospitality is something that we’re pretty proud of as an airport. That’s why we’re creating more memorable experiences for our guests this Stampede with new events like our first-ever petting zoos and our very own YYC saloon.

We also want to enhance your travel experience as you navigate the airport, so here’s some tips to help get you on your way a little easier.

  1. Get in the groove with Boot Stompin’ performances
The Stampede Promo Committee with music from Larry and Gary Suds, as well as features from other local talent, will be getting visitors into the western spirit with activities and performances of old-time country favourites.

  2. Saddle up at our YYC saloon
In partnership with the Bistro on the Bow, we‘re recreating a beer garden for our adult guests. While you’re waiting to pick up friends and family, join us to saddle up for some classic Stampede treats like mini donuts, and corndogs.

  3. Bring the little cow-folks for family day
Enjoy a unique sample of the Stampede grounds experience in our YYC Kiddy Corral, complete with a petting zoo, cotton candy, popcorn, tattoos and face painting. July 13, from 1-4 p.m. in the Domestic Terminal, Arrivals Level (across from Door 4).

  4. Give your guests a special western welcome
Do you have visitors coming to town for the Stampede? Treat them to our famed White Hat Ceremonies and make them honourary Calgarians. Book a ceremony today.

  5. Watch out this Pre-Board Pals cuteness overload
YYC’s Pre-Board Pals are gearing up in their (mini) cowboy hats to distribute free Stampede admission passes to guests. The pups will still be onsite providing their regular service of greeting and comforting guests.

  6. Snap your photo with Rodeo Royalty
The Indian Princess will be welcoming guests and taking Polaroid photos (for a take-home keepsake) at International Arrivals on July 13. Meghan Markle, who?

  7. Pre-plan your parking and/or transportation in advance
With a wide range of parking options available, use YYC’s online parking calculator and maps to pick the best option. Or if you’re looking for other way to get to and from the airport, there are a number of ground transportation options including taxis, sedans, Calgary Transit, shuttle buses and transportation network companies. More details can be found here [link].

  8. Use our Cell Phone Park and Wait Lot for arriving guests
If you’re swooping in to pick up a guest over Stampede, use our Cell Phone Park and Wait lot while arriving passengers collect their items. When they’re ready, a quick call to you will ensure a seamless and free pick-up!

  9. Know what to pack and What to expect during the security process
Passenger and baggage security screenings at airports in Canada are provided by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA). For details on what you can pack, travel checklists and general information to help avoid delays during this important process, please go to www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca.

  10. Be familiar with your check-in options and baggage allowances
Each airline sets its own recommended check-in time based on the destination as well as set their own baggage allowances. Some typical luggage restrictions can include weight and number of carry-on and checked bags without charge. Your airline may also include restrictions on travelling with pets so check out their websites before leaving home.

Check out the calendar of events and performances.

Happy travels to our guests as we ring in the Greatest Show on Earth.
