If you’ve ever wondered about the inner workings of a stable relationship - look no further than YYC Cargo operations and the Spruce Meadows equestrian facility.

On the eve of every September long weekend, YYC partners up with Spruce Meadows and transforms into a hub for athletes of the equine kind, in preparation for their annual Masters Tournament.

There’s no horsing around when it comes to the planning and prep required to get these prized ponies to their destination safely and stress-free. This year, they’ll be flown in on charter aircraft, ASL 747-400F, to the YYC International Animal Lounge, where some serious pre-competition pampering takes place. Arrival and sustainability of these animals is made possible under the careful guidance of YYC Cargo operations, where no detail is spared during the on and off loading of these majestic animals.

“In addition to all of the regular daily cargo operations, this specialized facility handles everything from equestrian horse charters to swine exports to Chinese pandas,” said Cindy Brown, Manager, Air Service Development Workforce Charters, Cargo & Logistics. “It includes weeks of planning and is not possible without the hard work and dedication of the various third party vendors and YYC teams to ensure all charters are successful.”

The unique cargo centre is the top facility in North America for live animal transport. Having this on-site facility contributes to YYC’s commitment to promoting local economic diversity and strengthening its partnerships within the business community.

“The Masters has reputation for being one of the most challenging and respected tournaments in the sport of Show Jumping,” says Stavroula Kangles, Spruce Meadows Senior Manager, Special Event Services.

Spruce Meadows busy summer competition season and special events throughout the year attract over one million visitors annually, creating a boost for local economy through hotels, restaurants and shopping.

This year’s Spruce Meadows Masters Tournament runs September 5 – 9, 2018, featuring the best horses and riders in the world competing in Spruce Meadows famed International Ring, click here for tickets.
