CALGARY (April 23, 2014) – The Calgary Airport Authority revealed plans today for Run and Roam the Runway - a weekend event that will allow Calgarians to experience Canada’s newest and longest runway. The weekend activities are scheduled for June 14 and 15, and incorporate a number of ideas generated from the 30 Days, 300 Ideas campaign that took place in November 2013. The registration site is now live and is open for participants to sign up for a fun-run on Saturday and an entertaining family-fun festival on Sunday. Registration and information on the weekend’s activities can be found at YYCRunway.com.

Starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, the weekend will kick-off with Run the Runway, an 8.4 and 5 kilometre run, hosted in partnership with the Running Room, on YYC’s runway that stretches 4.2 kilometres long. Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod from BodyBreak and Amazing Race Canada will be on-site to kick off the day by leading the warm up activities for the run.

Proceeds from the run on Saturday will go directly to KidSport Calgary, a local charity that ensures Calgary kids facing financial barriers are able to participate in and enjoy the many benefits of organized sport programs.

Event activities will continue on Sunday, June 15 with Roam the Runway, a family-fun festival from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Guests will be able to view a selection of vintage airplanes, sample tasty treats from the YYC Food Trucks and enjoy family-friendly activities and performers.

“The wonderful thing about this celebration is that all the event ideas came directly from Calgarians,” said Jody Moseley, Director, Corporate Communications & Marketing for The Calgary Airport Authority. “The weekend event will give the public a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to literally run and roam on Canada’s longest runway.”
