Announcing Matthew Heffernan as incoming Chair of the Board of Directors at The Calgary Airport Authority

Incoming Chair and CEO thank Michael Casey, Q.C. for his service

Calgary, Alberta (Aug. 10, 2021) –The Calgary Airport Authority is pleased to announce the election of Matthew Heffernan as the incoming Chair of the Board of Directors of The Authority. Mr. Heffernan succeeds Mr. Michael Casey, Q.C. effective August 8, 2021. 

“I’m looking forward to steering The Calgary Airport Authority to thrive as we recover over the next few years,” said Matthew Heffernan, incoming Chair of the Board of The Calgary Airport Authority. “Michael Casey did a remarkable job of helping management and YYC Crew navigate difficult times.”

Michael Casey’s term ends after first being appointed as a Director in 2014 and serving as Board Chair since 2017. 

“I would like to acknowledge and thank Chair of the Board of Directors Michael Casey, Q.C. for his service to The Authority,” said Bob Sartor, President and CEO, The Calgary Airport Authority. “His dedication and confidence in me and our YYC Crew has been unwavering, and we wish him well in the future. I look forward to working with our new Board Chair Matthew Heffernan.”

Originally appointed to the Authority’s Board by the Calgary Chamber in 2015, Mr. Heffernan was most recently the CEO of Banded Iron Group (formerly Zedi), a Calgary-based oil and gas technology and services firm. He currently serves on the Board of Dycar Pharmaceuticals and as an advisor to WaterSMART Solutions and Simplex Legal. He has served on many other boards including Executive Chairman of the Board for Blackbridge, a private company involved with satellite imaging for various companies and government departments.  In addition, he is a former board member of Canadian Locators Inc. and the Van Horne Institute. Mr. Heffernan also served as a member of the Chairman’s Circle for the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Mr. Heffernan has extensive experience in executive management roles in technology, sales and business development including TELUS Corporation, Exocom, and an entrepreneurial venture, Outrider Technologies.

Appointers to The Calgary Airport Authority Board of Directors are the Calgary Chamber Long Range Planning Committee, the City of Calgary, Rocky View County and the Government of Canada.

Calgary (Alberta), le 10 août 2021) – L’Administration aéroportuaire de Calgary (l’Administration) a le plaisir d’annoncer l’élection de Matthew Heffernan comme président entrant du conseil de l’Administration. M. Heffernan succède à M. Michael Casey, c.r., à compter du 8 août 2021. 

« Je suis impatient de prendre les commandes de l’Administration aéroportuaire de Calgary pour faire en sorte qu’elle se rétablisse avec succès au cours des prochaines années, a déclaré Matthew Heffernan, président du conseil entrant de l’Administration aéroportuaire de Calgary. Michael Casey a fait un travail remarquable pour aider la direction et l’équipe de YYC à passer au travers de moments difficiles. »

Michael Casey arrive au terme de son mandat après avoir été nommé dans un premier temps administrateur en 2014 et avoir servi comme président du conseil depuis 2017.

Initialement nommé au conseil de l’Administration par la Chambre de commerce de Calgary en 2015, M. Heffernan était jusqu’à tout récemment chef de la direction du Banded Iron Group (auparavant Zedi), une entreprise de Calgary spécialisée dans la technologie et les services pétroliers et gaziers. Il est actuellement administrateur de Dycar Pharmaceuticals et conseiller auprès de WaterSMART Solutions et de Simplex Legal. Il a siégé à de nombreux autres conseils d’administration, notamment comme président exécutif du conseil de Blackbridge, une société privée fournissant de l’imagerie satellite à divers ministères et compagnies. En outre, il est un ancien administrateur de Canadian Locators Inc. et du Van Horne Institute. M. Heffernan a aussi été membre du Cercle du président du Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Il a acquis une vaste expérience comme dirigeant dans les secteurs de la technologie, des ventes et du développement des affaires, notamment avec TELUS, Exocom et Outrider Technologies, une société entrepreneuriale. 

Les nominations au conseil d’administration de l’Administration aéroportuaire de Calgary sont faites par le Comité de planification à long terme de la Chambre de commerce de Calgary, la Ville de Calgary, le comté de Rocky View et le gouvernement du Canada.
