The Calgary Airport Authority celebrates its newest trade development

Calgary, AB (July 5, 2011) – The Calgary Airport Authority hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 2 of the Airport’s YYC Global Logistics Parks today, at Calgary International Airport (YYC).  The ceremony celebrated the newest addition to YYC, which will connect commercial, airside and logistics businesses at Canada’s leading integrated, multimodal business parks.

With easy access from Deerfoot Trail, and a direct link from Airport Trail NE, the park will be the Authority’s newest trade development, occupying over 330 acres of land. The property will offer businesses a unique location and the strategic advantage of connecting commercial, airside and logistics businesses, all in one location. The site will be a business centre for cargo handling, general aviation, operational support, and commercial activity.

“We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the second phase of the Global Logistics Parks,” said Stephan Poirier, Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer with The Calgary Airport Authority. “In 2001, we developed and implemented our long-term plans for growing cargo and logistics in Calgary. Since then, YYC has developed 1.8 million square feet of warehouse space, dedicated to the movement of cargo and logistics activities. It’s truly a success story for the airport and the City’s economy. Over the years the Authority’s business plans have provided a great platform that has enabled Calgary businesses and stakeholders to compete globally.”

The Authority has also renewed their commitment in creating eco-friendly developments by implementing sustainable design components in the overall roads, utilities, recreation and storm water plan including: bio-swales, rain gardens, and engineered wetlands to encourage and support tenant development initiatives.

Calgary International Airport (YYC) is Alberta’s premier international passenger and cargo gateway. Creating over $6 billion in economic activity, the Authority will invest approximately $2.4 billion over the next 10 years into YYC, in order to service the airport’s growing needs. The newest addition to the Global Logistics Parks will position YYC as an important strategic passenger, cargo, and business leader that plays a key role in keeping Calgary’s and Alberta’s economies moving forward.
