KLM Announces Continued Growth at YYC

(Calgary, AB.) - KLM announced today they will be expanding their operations at Calgary International Airport (YYC) with more seats and additional frequencies on their nonstop flight from YYC to Amsterdam. The KLM flight, which currently operates six days a week in the winter and daily in the summer, has been a tremendous success since the airline entered the Alberta market in 2009. YYC has been KLM’s most successful Canadian operation, and has seen a 60 per cent growth in seat capacity since their inaugural flight.

“Canada has always been of high interest to KLM and we are proud to be one of the major foreign carriers within this market,” said
Pieter Groeneveld, Vice President Network Planning. “Calgary has been a very successful market for KLM since the start of our operations in 2009, and YYC continues to play an important role in further developing the KLM network to/from Canada. It’s our aim to continue our capacity growth in Calgary for the near future, supported by the commercial cooperation we have with our partner WestJet.”

The additions to KLM’s summer 2015 schedule from YYC include:

  • Increasing seat capacity by 3.7% or 150 seats per week with an additional 777-200 frequency to four weekly flights
  • New peak summer schedule includes A332-200 (243 seats) service three times/week and B777-200 (318 seats) service four times/week.

We are very pleased to see KLM increase their capacity at YYC with more seats to their Amsterdam hub,’ said Stephan Poirier, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for The Calgary Airport Authority. “KLM has been tremendously successful at YYC and we are proud to be the only Canadian airport in their network that has seen growth in the last four years. Today’s announcement is a reflection of the opportunities they see in developing their network from YYC.”
