Be a part of preparing for the opening of the new International Terminal at YYC

(Calgary, AB) – The Calgary Airport Authority is looking for Calgarians to be a part of its history as it prepares for the opening of the new International Terminal at Calgary International Airport (YYC) later this year. The Authority’s ‘Preparing for First Flight’ program is designed to put systems and processes in the new terminal into practice before the official opening day in October.

“The trials are an important part of our preparation as we head towards opening day. They provide our teams and airport partners the opportunity to work through all the systems we have been testing for months behind the scenes, with real-life simulated travellers,” said Garth Atkinson, President & CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. “Volunteering for trials provides a unique chance to support the successful opening of Canada’s newest and most technologically advanced airport terminal. If you’ve been watching as the new terminal has taken shape, here’s your chance to get an exclusive sneak peek into the new YYC.”

The new International Terminal will introduce a variety of new services, systems and connections processes designed to streamline the experience for arriving and departing passengers – from baggage handling, through the connections process, to aircraft boarding. The airport is looking for 2,500 volunteers, individuals and families, to participate in the program, which will run in August and September.

The new International Terminal will more than double the size of the existing airport and will open for its first flight on October 31, 2016. The new terminal facility will span two million square feet and will add 24 new gates, and introduce streamlined customs and connections services, advanced screening and boarding processes, along with 50 new shops and services. The facility will provide much needed airport capacity, vital to our airport partners’ growth and development and will solidify YYC’s position as an important economic generator for the city, region and province.
