It’s been five years since our International Terminal Building (ITB) opened to the world—a world that now looks very different due to the pandemic. Given our focus on creating an efficient airport environment, big changes were made to meet the needs of our guests and airline partners. From cutting through glass, to building new walls and doors, we’ve reconfigured the way guests navigate the terminal, so that we can use it for both domestic and international flights

Here’s a #BTS look at 5 ways the ITB is being used a little differently.

  1. Previously used for international travellers only, Pre-Board Screening D opened to domestic travellers, which is a faster option with CATSA plus screening equipment

  1. A new exit from the secure side of the ITB makes for a simplified journey for those connecting to the United States.

  1. A new glass wall (that can also function as a door) sections off part of Concourse E to allow the airport to use the space for different flights as operational needs change.

  1. Transformed a wall into a door, allowing for more space for guests to move into and out of Concourse D.

  1. Created an opportunity for international to domestic connecting passengers to save time by getting a COVID-19 test without the need to exit the secure area.

As YYC’s newest building, the ITB is the most environmentally friendly terminal in use. The more of our activity that occurs there, the greener our operation becomes.

We continue to take a holistic approach to airport operations carefully balancing guest experience, operational innovation and efficiency, as we look forward to the future of travel and aviation.
