Calgary, AB – On July 1, 1992, the Calgary Airport Authority assumed responsibility for the operation, management and expansion of YYC Calgary International Airport. Today, YYC is a world-class facility served by 24 passenger carriers connecting Alberta to 68 destinations, including the province’s only non-stop flight to Asia. YYC now offers over 135 shops and services, is a leader in cargo and logistics in Alberta and supports 24,000 on-airport jobs while contributing $6 billion in value-added GDP to the local economy.

“It has been an amazing journey for both our organization and for the airport community at large,” said Garth Atkinson, President and CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. “We’ve come a long way over our 20 years and we are extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated group of employees and volunteers who have an unwavering commitment to the success of YYC”.

The airport continues to grow along with the City of Calgary. The $2 billion Airport Development Program, which is on schedule and on budget, will solidify YYC’s position as an important economic generator for the city, region, and province. The new 14,000 ft runway and 2 million ft2 international concourse will provide essential airport capacity well into the future.

YYC continues to be recognized for an exceptional passenger experience, and the Authority has its sights set on the next 20 years, with more services, new developments and even more celebrations along the way.
