Calgary AB – Thanks to the generosity of on-airport employees, travellers through Calgary International Airport (YYC) and The Calgary Airport Authority, Fort McMurray Fire Relief fundraising programs at YYC generated donations to the Canadian Red Cross of just over $40,000. 

The Calgary Airport Authority made an initial $25,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross to support their emergency appeal to help those affected by wildfires in the Fort McMurray area. This donation was then supplemented by funds raised by the thousands of people who work at the airport, and by the donations made by airport guests who contributed to collection boxes located in the airport.

“It’s truly heart-warming and inspiring to see the level of support being given to those affected by the Fort McMurray fires, not just by members of our airport community, but by those across the province and around the world,” says Garth Atkinson, President and CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority.

“We wish the best to those returning to Fort McMurray, and to our friends and partners at Fort McMurray International Airport, who are scheduled to be back in business on June 10.”
