(Calgary, AB) – The Calgary Airport Authority is celebrating the achievement of a significant milestone in its ongoing relationship with Cargolux Airlines – as the air cargo airline celebrates 15 years of service to the region through Calgary International Airport (YYC).

The milestone was acknowledged at a corporate event in Banff on May 25, where the contributions Cargolux has made at YYC for the last decade and a half were applauded.

“We are extremely proud to have had the opportunity to work with the amazing team at Cargolux since 2001. The company’s dedicated, three times a week 747-800 air freighter service connecting Calgary and Alberta to their Luxembourg hub provides a strategic connection to Europe and beyond for shippers and businesses in Alberta,” said Stephan Poirier, Senior Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer for The Calgary Airport Authority. “This connection allows Alberta’s businesses to have specialized cargo capacity and creates an economic pipeline from our region to global markets around the world.”

“Calgary airport is a central part of our constantly growing network. We are delighted that the partnership between Cargolux and Calgary airport exists already since 2001 – this makes 15 years of outstanding and fruitful collaboration," said Pier Curci, Vice-President, The Americas for Cargolux Airlines. “We are looking forward to many more years of joint success!”

YYC continues to be the leading air cargo gateway in the province of Alberta. In 2015, air cargo transported through YYC rose to 134,695 tonnes. This represents more than three-quarters of all air cargo moved in the province of Alberta.
