Top 10 tips to make your upcoming visit to YYC Calgary International Airport a bit more effortless

(Calgary, AB) – December is the busiest time of year at YYC Calgary International Airport, so if you are one of the thousands of passengers travelling during this period, we have some tips to help you navigate the airport.  In addition to the new International Terminal that includes some fabulous local and internationally known brands and food options, you can also pick up last minute gifts or stocking stuffers, and check out a variety of festive activities and experiences taking place within the airport. With so much to do and explore while you’re here, you’ll want to plan ahead.

1.     Feel the holiday beat

Our Holiday Music Program will help get you into the spirit with a variety of performances by choirs, schools and local community talent performing up to and including December 23.

2.     Get your flu shot

It’s been on your list for a while so check it off by texting FLU to 587 355 1866 to pre-book a spot or just pop in to Sandstone pharmacy to get your shot on the fly.

3.     Leave your Winter Gear with Us

Off to a sunny destination for the holidays? Leave your bulky coats and boots at our InfoCentre located pre-security in the Domestic Terminal for just $2 per day per item.

4.     Pre-plan your meals

Let’s face it, this season is all about enjoying some delicious goodies. With over 170 shops and services, we’ve got all your sweet treats, locally loved restaurants and world-renowned brands for you to enjoy. Visit yyc.com for more details.

5.     Shop and Wrap your Gifts All at Once

Get your last minute gifts and stocking stuffers and you can even get them wrapped from December 20 to 22 at one of our post-security gift wrapping locations.

6.     Plan a Special Welcome

7.     Pre-plan Your Parking or Ground Transportation Options

With a wide range of parking options available, use YYC’s online parking calculator and maps available at yyc.com. Looking for other option to get to and from the airport? There are a number of ground transportation options available including taxis, sedans, Calgary Transit, shuttle buses and transportation network companies. More details can be found on our website.

8.     Use our Cell Phone Park and Wait Lot for Arriving Guests

Picking someone up at YYC over the holidays? Use our Cell Phone Park and Wait lot while arriving passengers collect their items. When they’re ready, a quick call to you will ensure a seamless and free pick-up!

9.     Know What to Pack and Learn What to Expect During the Security Process

Passenger and baggage security screenings at airports in Canada are provided by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA). For details on what you can pack, travel checklists and general information to help avoid delays during this important process, please go to CATSA's website. Please note that it is recommended that gifts are not wrapped when going through security.

10.   Know Your Check-in Options  and Baggage Allowances

Each airline sets its own recommended check-in time based on the destination and have their own luggage allowance policies. They also may have special restrictions during the holiday season. Luggage restrictions can include weight, number of bags permitted, number of bags to be checked without charge, as well as size and number of carry-on items permitted on-board. It may also include restrictions on travelling with pets.
