YYC RANKED BEST CANADIAN CARGO AIRPORT AND RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS 2011 AIR CARGO WORLD AWARD

Calgary, AB (July 28, 2011) - The Calgary Airport Authority is pleased to announce that Calgary International Airport (YYC) has received the Air Cargo World Award of Excellence for airports in the 100,000 to 199,999 cargo tonnage category, ranking the airport the highest among all other Canadian Airports. This prestigious award is determined by the annual Air Cargo Excellence Survey in which airline customers are given the opportunity to rate airports based on key measurement performance areas. These key areas of measurement include performance, value, facilities and operations.

YYC ranked second in North America in its airport size category and best overall in Canada, scoring above average in the survey with an overall rating of 115, well above the average benchmark of 100. This superior rating solidifies YYC as a leader in Canada and in the Global Logistics industry and reflects YYC’s commitment to excellence in cargo services since 2000.

“Over the past decade, YYC has established itself as a major transportation and logistics hub in North America, offering the industry an unparallel integrated logistics platform connecting Western Canada to the world,” said Stephan Poirier, Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for The Calgary Airport Authority. “This award is especially meaningful as it directly reflects the sentiment of service providers and users across the industry.”

YYC saw an increase in cargo activity of 8.1 per cent in 2010 and the dedicated cargo aprons continued to be a hub of activity for cargo from around the globe. With the recent opening of UPS’s state-of-the-art 145,000-square-foot air/ground distribution facility at the YYC Global Logistics Park and numerous other cargo and logistics companies basing out of YYC, Calgary’s airport has quickly become an important strategic location for cargo activity. Since 2003, 1.8 million-square-feet has been developed into new distribution and logistics centres for YYC’s many partners, providing the best access to regional, national and international markets for businesses to grow.

As YYC is a major economic engine for the city and the region, The Calgary Airport Authority will continue to develop its airport and cargo facilities. The Authority recently began construction on the largest expansion project in the Airport’s history, the Airport Development Program (ADP), which will include the construction of a new Runway and International Concourse. The program includes new and innovative cargo facilities that will link all modes of cargo transportation into Calgary and its strong economic activity. As YYC grows and develops, the City of Calgary and Province of Alberta will continue to grow and prosper, leading Canada’s economic recovery.

The Calgary Airport Authority is a not-for-profit, non-share capital corporation incorporated under the Alberta Regional Airports Authorities Act. Since 1992, it has been responsible for the management, maintenance and development of Calgary International Airport and Springbank Airport under long-term lease from the Government of Canada.
