YYC Turns Down The Lights For Earth Hour

March 31, 2009   |

Calgary, AB – YYC’s commitment to sustainability is seen throughout the year, but in support of Earth Hour 2009, the airport further reduced its energy consumption between 8:30-9:30 pm on March 28, 2009 more than 20%.

Without affecting life safety systems, impacting operations or inconveniencing the travelling public, YYC turned off non-emergency lights and mechanical systems to be a part of Earth Hour 2009. Working with airport partners, Calgary Airport Authority electricians developed a plan to reduce energy consumption in the Air Terminal Building for the 2009 Earth Hour event, once again showcasing YYC’s commitment to being an environment leader, locally and nationally. As Canada’s first GoGreen airport, Calgary International Airport continues to implement leading edge initiates and technologies to grow Canada’s third busiest airport, without increasing its environmental footprint. YYC, it starts here.
