When does the new cannabis regulation take effect?
October 17, 2018
Consumption of cannabis at YYC:
YYC Calgary International Airport has adopted
City of Calgary Bylaws
for rules regarding the consumption of cannabis on public property.
It is important to note that recreational cannabis
cannot
be consumed on airport property.
Maximum allowable amount of cannabis on your person:
30 grams of dried cannabis.
The transportation of cannabis on flights within Canada:
Recreational and medical cannabis can be transported
within Canada
on flights, in both your carry on or checked luggage. Guests should be prepared with proper documentation and allowable amounts to avoid confiscation.
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority has helpful tips on what can and cannot be stored in your check or carry-on luggage. Check their
website
for information on how to prepare for this important process.
The transportation of cannabis on flights across Canadian borders:
Flying outside of Canada with cannabis, recreational or medicinal — remains illegal. Visit the Government of Canada's
website
for more information on these regulations, including entering or leaving the country with cannabis.
You are responsible for knowing what is legal in the province or territory you plan to visit:
It is important to note that each province or territory and city within Canada may have differing restrictions on cannabis. Visit the Government of Canada's
website
to learn more about the regulations in each province.
Confiscation and storage of cannabis:
Cannabis cannot be stored on YYC airport property for any length of time.
Any person with more than 30 grams on their person while at YYC airport may be subject to Calgary Police Service oversight and may be subject to criminal prosecution.
Cannabis will be confiscated:
If you are carrying more than the 30 gram dried cannabis allotted personal maximum.
If you are travelling across the Canadian border into the United States or elsewhere.
