RUNWAY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

"The Most Important 14,000 Feet in Alberta"
Calgary International Airport is embarking on development of its new Runway Program. This fourth runway is to be constructed on airport land between the Air Terminal Building and 36 Street NE.
This land was acquired and designated for this purpose in the 1970's and has also been a part of the Authority's long-term Master Plan since 1992.
Due to the airport's growth and to meet forecast demand, the parallel runway is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2014. The Authority is now embarking on the Environmental Assessment and other pre-construction planning activities, with major construction scheduled to begin in the fall of 2011.
The
Parallel Runway Project Registry is located in the

As the most important 14,000 feet in Alberta, the new runway will run parallel to the existing north-south runway 16-34 and will be designated 16L-34R. The projected cost of building the new runway is estimated at $500M ($2008) and will be funded by The Calgary Airport Authority.
