YYC
RUNWAY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The new runway at YYC will run parallel to the existing north-south runway 16-34. Requiring an estimated $500 million investment, this project will be funded entirely by The Calgary Airport Authority. Runway 16L/34R will be YYC's fourth runway and will be constructed on airport land between the Air Terminal Building and 36 Street NE. This land was acquired and designated for this purpose in the 1970's and has also been a part of the Authority's long-term Master Plan since 1992.

Due to the airport's growth and to meet forecast demand, the parallel runway is scheduled to be in service by mid 2014. The Authority is nearing the end of an Environmental Assessment and other pre-construction planning activities, with major construction scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2011.

The Parallel Runway Project Registry is located in the Here.
