YYC Calgary International Airport has introduced an upgraded parking technology platform designed to enhance operational efficiency and improve guest experience.
The new system modernizes ParkYYC operations with automated vehicle recognition, streamlined customer processing and integrated digital booking for a seamless, touch-free experience with contactless payment and digital processing, aligning with broader airport modernization efforts.
At the core of the upgrade is license plate recognition technology, identifying vehicles at entry and exit points across YYC-owned parking facilities. For customers who reserve parking online in advance, the vehicle plate serves as the parking credential, enabling automatic gate access on entry and exit without the need to collect a ticket or complete payment at departure.
For drive-up users, the system also links parking activity to the vehicle rather than a paper ticket, reducing delays associated with lost tickets and providing more efficient customer assistance.
With the new technology, traffic flows faster and more efficiently, with less congestion at entry and exit points and smoother circulation throughout parking areas.
Value for airport operations and passengers
The upgraded system delivers several benefits for both passengers and airport operations, including:
- More efficient vehicle processing at entry and exit points
- Seamless integration between online reservations and on-site access
- Reduced congestion and shorter wait times during high-demand periods
- A more consistent, reliable and user-friendly parking experience
As airports continue to invest in digitized ground access and passenger-processing solutions, YYC’s parking technology upgrade reflects a broader focus on operational resilience, customer convenience and travel optimization.
