Moving forward together - highlights from The Calgary Airport Authority’s 2024 Annual Report

CALGARY – The Calgary Airport Authority has released its 2024 Annual Report, showcasing a year marked by strong operational performance, a focus on enhancing the guest experience and continued progress toward long-term growth.  

The report outlines milestones across the organization’s strategic priorities and sets the foundation for continued momentum.  

“In 2024, we embraced change, elevated experiences and reinforced our commitment to operational excellence - but we’re just getting started,” says Chris Dinsdale, President & CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. “With our strategy in motion, a clear vision ahead and the dedication of our team and partners, we’re ready to shape the future of aviation and air travel in Alberta and beyond.”  

Over the past year, The Authority advanced its strategy to deliver operational excellence, strengthen partnerships and enhance regional economic impact. These efforts were supported by investments in infrastructure, terminal improvements, digital innovation and sustainability initiatives. Click here to access The Authority’s 2024 Annual Report. 

Highlights from The Authority’s 2024 financial performance  

  • The Authority generated $230.7 million of EBITDA, an increase of $2.8 million or 1.2 per cent, from 2023.  
  • Total revenue increased by 4.3 per cent to $518.9 million, including $201.4 million of non-aeronautical revenue. Incurred a loss from operations of $34.2 million, compared to a loss of $26.6 million in 2023.YYC maintained the lowest operating cost on a per passenger basis, compared to other Tier 1 Canadian Airports. 
 

Highlights from the 2024 Annual Report 

  • Welcomed a record-breaking 18.9 million passengers to YYC, up 2.2 per cent from 2023 - an increase of nearly 500,000 people, despite turbulent events throughout the year. 
  • Created a new strategy and vision and embarked on an exciting journey toward our newly defined strategic objectives. 
  • Introduced five new non-stop routes to Keflavik, Iceland; Incheon-Seoul, South Korea; Tulum, Mexico; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Deer Lake, Newfoundland. 
  • Completed the first year of the $201-million West Runway Rehabilitation project on time and under budget. 
  • Invested $6.3 million in airfield equipment to maintain safe and efficient winter operations. 
  • Finalized planning for the Centralized Screening Project, for which construction is now underway. This project will consolidate three separate screening points and use the latest technology to improve capacity and prepare for future growth. 
  • Began offering 20 minutes of free parking at YYC’s short-term lots. 
  • Earned Airports Council International’s Level 3 Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation for the second consecutive year. 
  • Raised $235,260 for #NotInMyCity through the annual YYC Golf Charity Classic. 
  • Advanced inclusive growth through programs focused on people, culture and community.  
  • Welcomed Rob Bachart, Chief Real Estate Officer, Balázs Bogáts, Chief Commercial Officer, and Jen Pon, Chief Financial Officer, to The Authority’s Executive Leadership Team. 
  • Weathered a devastating hailstorm in August with minimal impacts to our operation and no reported injuries. Concourse B remains closed during its restoration and is expected to reopen in summer 2026.  
  • Received the 2024 Canada’s Safest Employers Award in the Public Sector/Non-Profit Employer category, in recognition of our safety program. 
  • In September, The Authority and its partners conducted Operation Eclipse, a full-scale mock emergency exercise, designed to test response plans. 
  • Improved the digital experience by launching a new website and implementing a new mapping solution to simplify guest journeys. 
  • Developed a drought and water-shortage plan to repurpose stormwater in place of treated water for certain applications, including construction. 
As we look ahead, we recognize that we will face some challenges - whether it’s evolving trade and international relations, fluctuations in the global economy or other unforeseen events. We remain committed to our mandate and are confident in our ability to navigate any headwinds with optimism and determination.
