YYC Aeronex

Western Canada’s aviation development and innovation hub

YYC AeroNex is Calgary Airports’ real estate development initiative, supporting the growth of the aviation industry in the Calgary and Southern Alberta region through a thoughtfully planned facility ecosystem.

A scalable cluster of aerospace and aviation support, training, and technology facilities, YYC AeroNex is designed to onshore key industry supports, building global connectivity for airlines and ancillary support services operating at YYC Calgary International Airport.

YYC AeroNex is expected to draw skilled professionals to the region, enhance training and educational opportunities in engineering, design, technology, and aviation trades, and create a sustainable network of high-value jobs.

As it develops, the hub is also expected to draw airlines, aerospace technology companies, and additional specialized support services to the region, building an ecosystem that will increase overall GDP while diversifying and strengthening local economies. The project is funded with $172M in loans from the Canada Infrastructure Bank and $21.2M in infrastructure grants from the Government of Alberta Ministry of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration.

Lufthansa Technik Engine Maintenance Facility

In June 2025, Calgary Airports broke ground on a $120M engine maintenance and repair and test cell facility in partnership with Lufthansa Technik Canada and WestJet. Built and managed by Calgary Airports, the facility will focus on Boeing Max LEAP 1B engines, an advanced engine technology with upgraded fuel efficiency.

Development of the 150,000-square-foot facility in Canada is expected to create efficiencies for partner airlines, bringing maintenance services previously only available in the US to Canada. Calgary Airports is overseeing the financing, planning, construction and deployment of the facility.

Alberta Training Centre for Excellence

In September 2025, Calgary Airports announced development of the Alberta Training Centre of Excellence (CoE) in partnership with CAE, WestJet, and the Government of Alberta. The CoE is the first facility of its kind in Canada to bring pilot training and academic research under one roof.

The facility will be purpose-built and managed by Calgary Airports, the 126,000-square-foot facility will feature eight full-flight simulators, cabin trainers, and cutting-edge digital learning technologies to support initial and recurrent training for pilots, cabin crew, and simulator technicians on Boeing 737 MAX, 737 NG, 787 Dreamliner, and De Havilland Q400 aircraft. It will host the only Boeing 787 Dreamliner simulator in western Canada.
