CALGARY - The Calgary Airport Authority (The Authority), together with its partners, sponsors and supporters, teed off for the annual YYC Charity Golf Classic on Monday, August 19, raising $235,260 in support of #NotInMyCity.
The Authority has been a proud partner of #NotInMyCity since 2018, raising $464,015 through its YYC Charity Golf Classic. The funds raised this year will help #NotInMyCity continue its crucial work in raising awareness, preventing and disrupting sexual exploitation and human trafficking, particularly of children and youth.
“Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing crimes in Canada; as airlines and airport staff, we play a critical role in identifying, disrupting and preventing this crime,” said President and CEO of The Authority, Chris Dinsdale. “The YYC Charity Golf Classic is a meaningful way to bring the airport community together in support of #NotInMyCity, reinforcing our shared commitment as a sector to addressing and combating human trafficking.”
“#NotInMyCity is proud to partner with The Calgary Airport Authority in the fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation”, said #NotInMyCity founder, Paul Brandt. “We all have a voice and the power to share the message that child sexual exploitation and trafficking is wrong and won’t be tolerated.”
Hosted at Pinebrook Golf and Country Club, the event featured performances by Brandt, as well as its first-ever helicopter ball drop, a hole-in-one opportunity to win a 2023 Ferrari Roma and the Ford Hole-In-One, where golfers swung for a chance to win a Ford Lariat
"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us — from our dedicated partners and sponsors who embraced our new event structure to help raise funds for #NotInMyCity, to the volunteers and golfers who made the day such a success," said Kirstan Jewell, Chief of People and Communications for The Authority. “The support received to transition to a fully charitable event is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our airport community.”
In addition to its fundraising efforts, The Authority provides #NotInMyCity’s Human Trafficking & Aviation course to its staff, equipping them with the tools to identify and react to suspected human trafficking. This training has at times helped law enforcement respond to suspected human trafficking incidents at YYC Calgary International Airport (YYC) in recent years. YYC is also a partnering airport for #NotInMyCity’s Seeing Yellow campaign, aimed at raising awareness about human trafficking and helping those impacted find support.
