Calgary, Alberta (Oct. 22, 2020) – The Calgary Airport Authority is pleased to partner and support the Governments of Alberta and Canada’s announcement of an approved science-based testing pilot for Canadians arriving at YYC from international destinations.
“YYC Calgary International Airport is proud to be the first and only airport in Canada to have a government-approved testing pilot for arriving international passengers—which we hope will lead to reducing and one day eliminating the current 14-day self-isolation requirements. This innovative testing is the lifeline our airport and airline partners need to instill confidence in air travel,” said Bob Sartor, President & CEO, The Calgary Airport Authority.
YYC believes this is a first step to support the safe and healthy recovery of air travel, helping to drive our economy. The updated passenger forecast for 2020, estimates that our airport will welcome 5.8 million guests, down from a prior estimate of 6.4 million issued earlier this year. The updated forecast represents the same volumes as YYC saw in 1995 and a 68 per cent decrease from 2019 passenger levels of 18 million.
“Today’s announcement brings hope for a brighter tomorrow. A new era of travel is upon us, and all of us here at The Calgary Airport Authority look forward to helping pave the way forward,” added Sartor.
This testing, along with our #FlyHealthyYYC program—which achieved ACI World Airport Health Accreditation—ensures our guests can be confident from the moment they walk into YYC, go through security and board their aircraft, that we and our partners have done everything we can to make it a safe trip.
