YYC Celebrates Recovery, Growth and Partnerships in 2022 Wednesday, April 26, 2023 | Catgories: News Release CALGARY, AB – The Calgary Airport Authority (The Authority) released its 2022 annual report at its annual general meeting today. The report highlights actions The Authority has taken to effectively respond to the rebound in air travel and prepare for future growth. “In 2022, with a significant increase in travel, we were able to transition to a near-full recovery,” said Bob Sartor, President and CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. “Through the dedication and hard work of our employees and the strong relationships with our partners, guests and community, we continue to be an important economic driver for the region and play a key role in the city’s, region’s and aviation industry’s recovery.” 2022 Report Highlights: YYC Calgary International Airport saw 14.5 million passengers, a 128 per cent increase from 2021; a near-full recovery to 2019’s 18 million passengers. Maintained strong cargo business with 5, 362 landings, illustrating YYC’s important role in the region’s supply chain. Total revenue of $416 million, an increase of 92 per cent compared to 2021 and only $16 million below the revenue generated in 2019 - $432M. YYC Calgary International Airport became WestJet’s global connecting hub, which is anticipated to increase passengers through YYC by more than 20 per cent in 2023. Continued work on the West Runway Rehabilitation Project including planning, design development, and procurement. Expanded commercial partnerships including: a multi-year sponsorship agreement with RBC, a mural installation with Coca-Cola, a multi-year agreement with Uber and new agreement with taxi operators. Developed a YYC Partner Parking program, where participating businesses in Calgary and the surrounding area will benefit from their employees receiving discounts on parking when travelling for either business or leisure. Expanded YYC Express: a virtual queuing technology solution developed and led by The Authority to provide certainty and minimizes time spent in the security screening. In 2022, more than 83,000 guests made reservations for YYC Express. Return of the Wings Over Springbank Airshow with 18,000 visitors. The Authority is forecasting close to 17.5 million passengers in 2023. “As we move into 2023, and the CEO role transitions to Chris Dinsdale later this year, I am confident we have laid a strong foundation to successfully navigate the future and continue to be a significant contributor to the city, the region, and the community,” concluded Sartor.
