On October 22, we celebrated the grand opening of Wander Kitchen & Bar by Chef Nicole Gomes at YYC Calgary International Airport’s Concourse C. Located near Gate C50, this exciting new addition marks a milestone in YYC’s growing culinary landscape and welcomes one of Canada’s most celebrated chefs to our airport community.
Wander Kitchen & Bar is the first airport restaurant from Chef Gomes, a celebrated Top Chef Canada: All-Stars champion, Beat Bobby Flay winner, and one of Calgary’s most beloved culinary talents. With an approach that blends bold global flavours and approachable style, Chef Gomes brings her love of travel, flavour and connection to every dish.
The grand opening celebration featured a ribbon cutting, remarks from Chef Gomes, Bob Stanton from SSP Canada and Chris Niergarth from Calgary Airports, as well as menu tastings showcasing Wander’s globally inspired fare. Guests sampled signature items like the Salt & Pepper Popcorn Chicken, House-Made Italian Meatballs, Tempura Green Beans and Pineapple Carrot Cake, all crafted with fresh, seasonal ingredients and served in a refined, mid-century modern space inspired by the golden age of travel.
SSP Canada, a division of SSP Group and a leading operator of food and beverage brands in travel locations worldwide, partnered with Chef Gomes and YYC to bring this vision to life. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to showcasing local culinary icons on the global travel stage. “Wander Kitchen & Bar beautifully captures what travel through YYC is all about," connection, comfort, and discovery,” said Chris Niergarth, General Manager of Retail & Hospitality Development at Calgary Airports.
