Lufthansa Group expands services in Canada offering direct flights from Calgary to Frankfurt

| Catgories:
  • Eurowings will fly from Calgary to Frankfurt four times per week in Summer 2020
  • New service offers Calgary-based travellers hundreds of connections from Frankfurt Airport to Europe, Middle East, Africa and beyond
  • Lufthansa Group carriers will serve a total of five Canadian gateways in the Summer of 2020

Great news for Lufthansa Group’s Canadian customers in Calgary. Eurowings, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, will now connect Calgary to Frankfurt, Germany, on a seasonal basis.

Service will commence on June 1, 2020, and operate through October 24, 2020. Calgary will join other Lufthansa Group Canadian gateways in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, as well as the upcoming route in Ottawa. Eurowings is the second Lufthansa Group airline to serve Calgary. Currently, SWISS' subsidiary, Edelweiss, offers seasonal flights to Zurich.

The new Calgary route will be operated with an Airbus A330-200 offering a seat configuration of 22 Business Class seats and 248 Premium Economy and Economy Class seats with the option of more legroom on select seats. The flight will operate four times per week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. As the summer travel period concludes, the service will alternate to three weekly flights on October 5th until (Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays) as of October 24, 2020.

"For over six decades the Lufthansa Group has been serving Canada. We continue to expand to new gateways in the region, which underscores our commitment to the Canadian market,” said Hans DeHaan, Senior Director Canada, Lufthansa Group. "Eurowings will now offer a direct connection between Calgary and Lufthansa Group's Hub Frankfurt, linking passengers to over 300 connections throughout Europe, as well as across Africa, the Middle East and beyond."

Frankfurt Frankfurt, with a population of approximately 5.6 million, is Germany’s most international city. Steeped in culture and with a rich history, the Frankfurt Rhine-Main metropolitan region is one of Europe’s leading economic centers and a popular travel destination. It is home to a wide range of tourist attractions and sights, including world-class ballet, opera, theatres and art exhibitions. As Germany’s fifth-largest city, it is the nation’s financial center and home to the German Central Bank and the European Central bank. It is also the gateway to Germany’s robust hi-tech scene. Frankfurt Airport serves as Lufthansa Group’s main and largest hub and offers reliable transfers for over 50,000 passengers each day. The Frankfurt hub offers 17 lounges including the Panorama Lounge that was introduced in 2018 and increased terminal 1 lounge capacity by 40 percent.

The Lufthansa Group – along with its airlines Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss, Eurowings and Swiss International Air Lines – as well as its Star Alliance and joint venture partner Air Canada, offers a wide range of connecting options for passengers flying from Canada to Europe and beyond.

Aside from the new Calgary route, the Lufthansa Group also serves four other Canadian gateways:

Lufthansa Group in Montreal
Beginning in March 2020, Brussels Airlines will launch its new, non-stop seasonal service between Montréal, Quebec and Brussels, Belgium. With Brussels' new gateway in Montreal, Lufthansa Group’s passenger airlines will be fully represented in this region, joining Austrian, which was successfully introduced to Montreal in April 2019, as well as Lufthansa and SWISS.

Lufthansa Group in Toronto
Lufthansa offers year-round and seasonal daily flights from Toronto to its two hubs in Frankfurt and Munich.

Lufthansa Group in Vancouver
Lufthansa and Edelweiss (a subsidiary of SWISS) fly to Vancouver. Lufthansa flies daily from Vancouver to Frankfurt and seasonally to Munich. Edelweiss offers service from Vancouver to Zurich in the summer months.

Lufthansa Group in Ottawa
On May 16, 2020, Lufthansa will begin flying five times a week from the Canadian capital to its hub in Frankfurt.
