YYC's New Terminal Opening Day Travel Tips

Thursday, October 27, 2016 0 Milestones

On October 31, 2016, YYC Calgary International Airport will look a little different as it will officially open its new 2 million-square-foot International Terminal to the world. If you are one of the thousands of passengers travelling on or after October 31, here are some helpful tips to help you navigate our new state-of-the-art facility.

1. Know Where to Park

  • If you are flying to a Canadian destination, your best parking option is still parkade 1 (P1). Look for P1 signage in red.

  • If you are travelling to the U.S. or internationally – you’ll want to follow blue signage indicating P2. Here’s a link to our parking maps and more detailed instructions.

2. Explore your Ground Transportation and Curb Pick-Up Options

Picking someone up at YYC? The Cell Phone Lot remains a great option if you are picking up arriving passengers from the new terminal. The Cell Phone Lot is located on the north side of Airport Road (just to the right as you enter YYC), before the parkade entrance—just look for the purple and white signs. Arriving passengers will be able to collect their items, call their ride waiting in the Cell Phone Lot and meet them at the designated zones on the Arrivals Level. Curbside Ambassadors dressed in red jackets are available to help guide you.

All of the available ground transportation services such as hotel shuttles, public transportation, taxi and sedan services will be available at both the existing terminal and new terminal.

3. Arrive Early at YYC

There are several new processes and expanded facilities to navigate, so we suggest leaving yourself some additional time for your flight on October 31. There will be plenty of White Hat Volunteers and Customer Care Ambassadors to help you through new processes in the facility.

4. Give Yourself Time to Explore

For those that arrive early, there are over 50 shopping and dining locations in the new International Terminal. YYC will be the first in North America to introduce a call-to-gate system, which allows you to enjoy the central area with various shops and services while you wait for your gate to be announced. There will be plenty of screens available in the central areas and restaurants to keep you up to date on your flight so spend some time enjoying the new shops and services, along with the beautiful themeworks pieces. 5. Know Your Check-in Options and Arrival Information

Each airline sets its own recommended check-in time based on the destination. Be sure to check with your airline to find out the best time to arrive for your flight.  To make your travel experience with YYC even better, our check-in area in the new terminal includes a number of self-service options for check-in and bag drop, expediting the process. Our self-service kiosks are easy to use and quick, and for those who’d like more of a personal touch, you’ll still have the opportunity to check-in with an airline agent.
