Security Screening

YYC works closely with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) to help ensure security screening is accessible, respectful and supportive for guests with diverse needs.

Every security checkpoint at YYC offers accessible screening lanes for travellers who may require additional time, space or support. These lanes are available to guests with disabilities, medical needs, mobility aids, sensory sensitivities or other accessibility considerations. Using an accessible lane or requesting assistance does not change screening requirements, but it can help make the experience more comfortable and manageable.

CATSA Blue Vest staff are specially trained to assist guests throughout the screening process. Blue Vests can provide guidance, answer questions and help accommodate individual needs whenever possible. Guests are encouraged to let a Blue Vest know how they can best be supported.

Accessible Regulatory Information Booklets are available at all screening checkpoints for travellers who are blind or have low vision. Available in English and French, the booklets include braille, large print and raised text, and contain the same regulatory information displayed on checkpoint signage. Travellers can review the information independently, ask an officer to read it aloud, or use the booklet while waiting in line and return it after screening.

CATSA also provides resources and guidance for travellers with medical devices, medications, mobility aids and other accessibility needs. Reviewing these resources before travel can help guests understand what to expect and prepare for a smoother screening experience.

YYC encourages guests to take the time they need during security screening and to ask for support at any point in the process.
