CALGARY - As summer starts to heat up, The Calgary Airport Authority is preparing for a busy season at YYC Calgary International Airport. Kicking off this month with the G7 Summit, through the 2025 Rotary International Convention at the end of June, to Stampede and beyond, YYC is ready to welcome the world. An estimated 5.8 million passengers are expected to travel through the airport before the season is finished. That’s more than three times the number of people who would fill all the seats in the Saddledome – every day.
“Summer travel is special. It’s Stampede, family reunions, weddings and long-awaited escapes,” says Chris Miles, Chief Operating Officer, The Calgary Airport Authority. “No matter the event, our job is to help make sure those journeys start and end on the right foot. That means anticipating pressure points during peak travel times and coordinating with partners to keep things moving seamlessly for guests.”
With an average of 67,000 passengers anticipated to move through YYC each day over the summer months, Calgary Airports encourages guests to plan ahead with the following travel tips:
- Arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours prior to international departures to allow adequate time for traffic, parking, check in and security.
- Travelling to the U.S.? Access to security and customs for all U.S.-bound general boarding passengers is limited to two hours before your flight during peak travel times.
- Book parking online and in advance via YYC’s online parking reservation system.
- YYC offers accessibility assistance for people of all ages and abilities. Services can be arranged in advance through the Accessibility Assistance Request form online or by phone at (403) 735-1234
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) encourages visitors and returning Canadians to be prepared by having the appropriate travel documentation ready, declaring all goods purchased abroad, and being informed about restricted items. Last year, CBSA processed almost 3.3 million travellers at YYC.
“The CBSA is ready to welcome the world to Calgary this summer. In order to have a smooth experience at the border, the CBSA reminds travellers to use tools like the CBSA Advance Declaration to speed up processing time and to be informed about items that are not permitted to cross the border – like cannabis. We have a strict ‘don’t bring it in, don’t take it out’ rule for cannabis in any form,” says CBSA Director Lisa White. “I encourage travellers to visit the CBSA website to stay updated on travel tips, personal exemption limits, and information about how the new U.S. surtaxes may affect them.”
